Stop 01 · Overview

United Kingdom at a glance.

Britain has the oldest and deepest Indian community of any country we serve — Southall, Leicester and Harrow are institutions, not neighbourhoods. Its universities still carry the strongest brand for a one-year master's, and the NHS and City of London recruit Indian professionals in volume.

The government raised skill and salary thresholds in 2024 and again in 2025, closed the care-worker route to new overseas hires and is consulting on longer settlement periods. Translation: the UK now wants graduates and genuinely skilled professionals, and it is still very open to them.

Stop 02 · Strategic pathways

Strategic pathways to relocate.

Six doors in. The right one depends on your degree, experience, money and how much patience you have.

Route 01

Skilled Worker visa

For: Professionals with a job offer from a licensed sponsor

Degree-level roles with salary above the threshold; leads to settlement after 5 years.

Route 02

Student visa → Graduate visa

For: Admits to UK universities

Two years of unsponsored work after graduating — the most common route we file.

Route 03

Health and Care Worker visa

For: Doctors, nurses and allied health professionals

Reduced fees, no health surcharge and NHS trusts that sponsor at scale.

Route 04

Global Talent visa

For: Leaders in tech, research, arts and academia

No employer needed; endorsement from a body like Tech Nation's successor.

Route 05

Innovator Founder visa

For: Founders with an endorsed, scalable business idea

Three years, extendable, with settlement possible.

Route 06

Family & partner visas

For: Spouses and partners of British citizens or settled residents

Income requirement applies to the sponsoring partner.

Stop 03 · Visa & immigration

Visa & immigration details.

UK applications are online, fast and unforgiving about detail. Decisions on Skilled Worker visas typically come in three weeks. What slows people down is the sponsor side: the employer must hold a licence and issue a Certificate of Sponsorship before you apply.

What you'll need to show

  • Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a licensed employer
  • Job on the eligible occupation list, paid at or above the going rate
  • English at B1 or above — IELTS for UKVI, or a UK degree
  • Maintenance funds unless the sponsor certifies them
  • TB test certificate from an approved clinic in India
  • Immigration Health Surcharge paid upfront for the visa length
  • Criminal record certificate for certain roles (education, health, social care)

Stop 04 · Study & education

Study & education.

A UK master's takes twelve months, not two years, which is why it remains the best value-for-time degree in the West. Russell Group universities carry weight with employers worldwide, and the Graduate visa gives you a two-year runway to convert study into a sponsored job.

  • One-year master's programs across business, engineering, law and data
  • Graduate visa: 2 years' open work rights after any degree (18 months from 2027)
  • Students can work 20 hours a week during term
  • September and January intakes at most universities
  • Dependants can only accompany postgraduate research students

Stop 05 · Job market

Job market & opportunities.

The NHS is the single largest recruiter of Indian professionals in the world, and London remains Europe's finance and tech capital. Beyond those, engineering, construction and education all sponsor. Salaries lag the US and Australia, but so does the working week.

Stop 06 · Can I afford it?

Can I afford it?.

London is expensive in a way that surprises even Mumbai natives — rent alone can eat half a junior salary. The rest of the country is a different story: Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow give you the same visa, the same NHS and rents that leave money at the end of the month.

Expensive

London · Oxford · Cambridge

Highest salaries in the UK but rent and transport swallow most of the difference.

Balanced

Manchester · Edinburgh · Bristol · Birmingham

Big employers, big Indian communities, rents 40% below London.

Easier

Glasgow · Leeds · Sheffield · Newcastle · Belfast

Comfortable on a single Skilled Worker salary; NHS trusts sponsor here too.

Budget for these before you fly

  • Immigration Health Surcharge, paid upfront for the whole visa
  • Five weeks' rent as deposit plus first month in advance
  • Council tax — a monthly local charge most newcomers forget
  • Winter heating bills in older housing
  • Railcard or Oyster budget if you're in London

Stop 07 · Why go

Why United Kingdom?.

No language barrier

Work, school and paperwork in English from day one.

One-year master's

Half the time and cost of a US or Canadian degree, globally recognised.

The NHS hires in volume

Structured recruitment for nurses, doctors and allied health from India.

Nine hours from home

Direct flights from every Indian metro; parents can visit on a visitor visa.

Deep Indian roots

Temples, gurdwaras, Diwali on Trafalgar Square and an MP from every community.

Europe for the weekend

Paris in two hours by train; Schengen trips on a UK residence permit are easy.

Stop 08 · Life there

What's it like to live there?.

Britain is grey, polite and quietly funny. You'll complain about the weather within a week and defend it within a year. Life runs on trains, pubs, the NHS and the school run; Indian food is national cuisine and cricket is a shared religion.

Stop 09 · Long-term

Long-term: residence & citizenship.

Most work and family routes lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after five continuous years, and citizenship a year after that. The 2025 immigration white paper proposed lengthening the standard settlement period to ten years for some routes, so we check the current rule for your visa before we file.

  1. Stage 1

    Limited leave

Skilled Worker or Graduate visa — extendable, tied to sponsorship

  2. Stage 2

    Indefinite Leave to Remain

5 continuous years on a qualifying route, Life in the UK test, B1 English

  3. Stage 3

    British citizenship

12 months after ILR; dual nationality allowed by the UK, OCI for India

Stop 10 · Relocation process

Relocation process, step by step.

Eight stops from first call to first paycheque. We run them in parallel wherever the rules allow.

  1. 01

    Profile assessment

Occupation code, salary bar and English level checked against the current rules.

  2. 02

    Pathway selection

Sponsored job, study-then-Graduate visa, or the NHS recruitment route.

  3. 03

    Sponsor search

We target employers on the licensed-sponsor register — nobody else can hire you.

  4. 04

    Documentation

CoS, IELTS for UKVI, TB test, funds and a UK-format CV.

  5. 05

    Online application

Filed on GOV.UK with the IHS paid; identity verified via the app or VFS.

  6. 06

    Biometrics

Fingerprints and photo at a VFS centre, or the UK Immigration: ID Check app.

  7. 07

    Decision

Usually within 3 weeks for work visas; eVisa issued to your UKVI account.

  8. 08

    Relocation

Flight, National Insurance number, bank account, GP registration and a home.

Stop 11 · Taxes

Taxes in United Kingdom.

British tax is simple for employees: your employer deducts income tax and National Insurance through PAYE, and most people never file a return. Rates step up through basic, higher and additional bands, and the personal allowance means the first slice of income is tax-free.

  • Tax year runs 6 April to 5 April — not the calendar year
  • Personal Allowance: your first £12,570 is tax-free (frozen until 2028)
  • National Insurance is deducted alongside income tax on your payslip
  • Council tax is separate and paid to your local council monthly
  • Scotland sets its own income-tax bands
  • India–UK double taxation agreement covers income and pensions

General orientation, not tax advice — rates and thresholds change every year. We confirm the current figures when we plan your move.
